Beckingham cum Saundby

History Group Social

The History Groups Social for 2020 took place in the Recreation Room on 30th January. The tables were decoratively laid with cloths, pretty doyleys, serviettes tied with string, rosemary and dried fruit, little Happy New Year cards and chocolate coins, plus a floral centrepiece for each table.
The group decided this year to have a caterer supply the food and chose Zenas Top Nosh from Gainsborough. The menu gave a choice of steak or ham and leek pie, plus a vegetarian option, served with potatoes and vegetables. For dessert there was treacle sponge pudding and custard or raspberry cheesecake and cream. All delicious with generous portions, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, with a few even going back for seconds! Wine and soft drinks were provided by the group.
Then followed an entertaining Christmas Quiz of 25 questions, some easy, some not so, provided by Mr Alan Beadle a speaker from Hull. This caused much amusement and was enjoyed by all. People took part in groups, as a table or singularly.

The quiz was won with 17 correct answers by Robert, Barbara and Pat as team “Super Trio”, receiving a basket of fruit as their prize. Runners up won boxes of chocolates.
Sincere thanks go to all who helped to organise the evening, especially Freda for her hard work and little extra touches that made it special.
