Gardeners Association Flower Show 2008...

On Saturday 19th July All Saints Church Beckingham was host to the first flower show organised by the Beckingham cum Saundby Gardeners Association. Despite recent heavy rain the members managed to produce some beautiful exhibits for the Rose, Sweet Pea and Mixed flower classes. Members levels of dexterity were also challenged in the miniature section, which included 'buttonholes' and flower arrangements contained within eggcups. The judges of all the flower entries, Anne and Dennis Snowden, carefully considered all aspects of the exhibits before choosing the winners. In the domestic section, Mrs. Marjorie Clayworth scrutinized superb cakes and scones. The hobbies section, which she also judged, included a wide variety of skilled crafts.

The show attracted many visitors during the afternoon, and most studied the entries almost as carefully as the judges had done before tucking in to a delicious home made "Afternoon Tea".
The Overall Winner was Mrs. Caroline Thomas who was awarded The Madin Trophy. Second was Mr. Rex Madin and Mrs. Jayne Hanson came Third. The Winner of the Roses Section was Mr. Rex Madin who received The Ann Simpson Rose Trophy. Second was Mrs. Marion Brown and Mrs. Sheila Clark came Third. A full list of the show results will be available to members at the next club meeting.
The Chairman Mr. Rex Madin wishes to thank all who took part in any way, especially the show committee for their help and support in this new venture.
