Spring Clean 2009 ...

Residents of Beckingham entered into the spirit of things yet again this year, during Bassetlaw District Councilís Spring Clean Week. On Saturday 25th April a village litter pick was organised by Beckingham cum Saundby Parish Council. 12 members of the parish volunteered, meeting in the village hall car park at 9.30am for 10am start.

Dressed in suitable clothing and armed with plastic gloves and bin liners they spent a couple of hours picking up litter in and around the village. The areas cleared included roadside verges, mainly along the bypass and other places not normally covered by the employed village litter pickers.

Over 20 dustbin liners were filled with varying types of rubbish, mostly discarded by inconsiderate passing traffic. Drink bottles and cans, take away boxes, cigarette packets, various car parts, clothes and many other items were collected, all of which was taken away the next day by the District Council. Parish Council Chair Brian Suart was pleased with the turnout and thanked everyone who helped.
